Agreed for a surfgate project, but im starting to thing a NSS might be much easier to retrofit.

I know the local nautique dealer. They just sold a couple g23s without. They can order retrofit kits. I still need to compare the hull angles. ..

So your telling me that nobody has bolted on a 'surf gate' test on an Axis yet?

We thought about buying some HDPE and cutting out a gate for testing. Anyone try anything yet?

I barely have time to surf so doing driveway R&D is low on the list right now. The axis transom is not like the malibus with surfgate - the Axis is more notched, so a surfgate fabrication/mounting is not going to be straight forward. Thats why Im thinking a NSS like solution using is Volvo QL trim tabs is more practical. Sometimes when I surf and the weighting is just right (or maybe when I surf faster), the water does not hug the opposite corner of the stern. This concerns me that the QL trimtabs might not extend far enough. If you look down the hull there is a significant bow. BUT evenly weighted Left and Right, this might not be an issues at all. Level weighted surfing might also resolve the <2012 swimdeck issues. Ok, now Im motivated again....

Would anyone know the expected lateral force with a surfgate type solution?

Here is the pic of the new surfgate for Axis. As expected, you cannot order this from Malibu/Axis and there are no retrofits avaliable as platform, wiring and computers are different for 2014. I am going to try to retrofit a basic surfgate with trim tabs mounted sideways and a simple left right switch. I'll prolly integrate a check light if a tab it deployed so we dont rip it off at faster speed.

It is very common to install trim tabs on the bottom of a boat's transom and use them throughout the speed range of the boat. I can not see a properly mounted one ripping off at speed.
