Can anyone tell me if an acid wash is necessary? I pulled my boat today and before I did I spend 3 hours scrubbing the bottom of the boat with a mask, fins, and a brush. The lake it sat in for 5 months was a bit abundant in the growth department. It looks clean of active growth but still a little discolored. They charge about $13 a foot to acid wash it !

Thanks in advance.

Be carefull with the acid wash on the black edge caps (the plastic edging that covers the seam between the top and bottom sections of the hull).

It will cause the edging to oxidate and turn ash white, especially the corner caps and black breather/sump pump hole rings on the side of hull too.

Should be ok on the gel coat but rinse it quickly and protect it with a finishing wax like starbrite or likes when you are done.

Never had any luck with the regular Starbrite hull cleaner with anything other than weekend scum. On/off hull cleaner however works really well. Ive even used regular lime away followed by a washdown.

also use the On/Off hull cleaner. Got it from West Marine. Next boat I get will just be orange, less cleaning

Its not less, don't let color fool you...the same dirt, scum, and spots are still there no matter what color your boat is. Light colored boats hide the dirt, scum, and spots better so the owner doesn't look as lazy but up close its still a filthy boat.

Starbright Hull cleaner had changed my life.

A special thanks to elc, and TwistedTad, I was ready to drop $300 to have her acid washed, but thought I should try the Starbright out. $20 later and the hull was white. I was doubtful to say the least.

When I got home I walked over and sprayed some on the hull to check it out. I went inside to grab a sponge and when I came back the hull was white again.

Thanks guys.

Cheers
