We are planning our annual wakeboard trip for next year and wanted to know if Lake Austin would be a good place. We will come in early Wed and leave on Sat (June 2013). If so, is there any place to rent on the water?

Weekdays are good on Lake Austin, Fridays have a little boat traffic. Forget weekends unless you're on the water at sunrise and off by 10am. Lake Austin on Sat/Sun is like Interstate 35 but it's with boats...it sucks. I have no idea about rentals but it's pretty much multimillion houses and half million dollar weekend boat houses with no plumbing lol.

you can find nice rent houses on the water with a dock for a good price if you shop around

I stayed at this one late last year. http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p243133
Really nice place but the parking is horrible if you have more than one vehicle, and the bathroom is kind of odd. Boat dock is nice but both slips were being used so we had to tie off to the outside, back yard and hot tub are really nice.

Riding during the week will be great. The lake will start to get traffic in the afternoon from 3-4 on and will increase the close it gets to the weekend. Weekend riding will only be good before 10am. You can get some late surf sessions around 7:30-8+. Then take a trip over to the Hula Hut or Ski Shores for some food.

If you find a place make sure that they have a dock with a lift. Your boat will get slammed depending on what part of the lake you are on. Some areas with the retaining walls have back and forth rollers ALL day long!

That's the one thing that sucks about Lake Austin the shoreline...all the walls and other vertical surfaces make the wakes refract right back in the direction they came. You can actually screw up your own water if making multiple passes. That area below Mt Bonnell is the worse and sooner or later you'll have to go through it. It's like moguls for wakeboats lol.

I'm going with DatTexasBoy next year. We've made our last two trips to Broken Bow, OK and Lake Gresson, AR. We had fun at both but we were looking to go somewhere different maybe. We've heard Lake Austin is good, but we are open for suggestions. We are in East Texas and would like to keep the trip 5hrs or under. Any other suggestions? We definitely want to ride, so some glass would be nice.

You guys will be fine on Lake Austin since it's a weekday trip. Plenty of glass to be found. The water gets cooler as you go from the dam towards Lake Travis buts it's miles and miles of good water all cliff lined most of it. Plus restaurants with docks and great food/drinks.
