Not to jack the thread, but what would a good beginner setup be? Something that I can progress my riding and not have to buy a whole new setup once I get some more experience. I currently weigh about 210lbs.

I would go ahead and spend the money and buy a good board and binding set. even the pro model boards are designed so that a beginner can buy the boards and use them. my opinion is deff biast but i feel that hyperlite does a good job providing big fins so the beginner can use there pro model boards. i started with a pro model board
just my 2cents

Ronix District board. Ronix One bindings. Pretty decent beginner board. Doesn't release as quickly as a lot of others, but I'm able to stick landings pretty well. Unfortunatley the downside is I catch a toe side as soon as I think I'm comfortable enough to do a surfaces spin without thinking.

@ amsugg - I am also a big Murray fan and I love the setup since I am also a snowboard fanatic, but I heard that the Murray boards were heavy. what do you think about it?
I love the Slingshot. There is not a better board for buttering or playing around and the landings are super soft.
The Bio is def on my short list!
@ John - Have you tried the Witness Hybrid?

hum i have never noticed really ... the times i have noticed its because my stuff was alot lighter. two guys i ride with have slingshots and its about tit for tat. My first board was an 08 murray and the biggest diff between 08 and 12 is that the 08 the fins track even in a nuetral (standing straight up) so it took a little effort to break fins loose to board slide. 12 board the fins don't track in a nuetral position making it loose and easy to board slide. 12 took a little getting use to but its poppy and landingin the flats are a lot softer then the 08

John - No, I have not tried the hybrid, but I want to demo one.
Amsugg - I have not tried the cable park, yet. There is one in North GA that a friend of mine has been asking me to try. He is semi-pro and has some of his used and sponsor boards to demo, so I might have to take a trip up to try it! I am a little nervous since being behind a boat is all I've known.

I hit my first park in Singapore not too long ago. Bring gloves even if you don't normally wear them - the handles are industrial strength. The corners are the only thing that's tricky. Before the corner, be on the outside, then as the cable turns you carve the board in the same directions. The walk back barefoot after a fall sucks. The hyperlite system bindings would be perfect!
