I,m not a stereo guy and need some help. My A20 came with Sony deck and a MTX thunder amp. After 5 to 10 minutes the speakers on the MTX amp cut out and only the sub works. The amp lights and fan will still be on but no sound. Is this just a bad amp?? And what should I replace it with?? Thanks I would like to take care of this in the garage, its still snowing in North Idaho.

I had an mtx doing the exact same thing, see if it will play if you turn off the crossover, mine would work without the crossover and then go back to saying short if it was on, still haven't heard from the dealer about getting it warrantied and I took it to them 8 months ago, I replaced it myself with 2 Orion amps, isolating the tower from the sub.....sounds much better now. 500.1 to the sub and a 500.2 to the tower, Treedoc can vouch for the sound improvement, he's heard it.

I am on my 2nd MTX amp (dealer replaced it for free) , but it is starting to crap out with the crossover too. one side of the tower speakers stop working all the time and I have to reset the settings to get it back...a real pain! I think I will upgrade this winter.

is it going into protect mode? have you checked all of the terminations (power, ground, and remote turn on) to make sure there are no shorts? A short in the speaker wire can cause this as well. If you have a spare speaker around, try hooking that up while disconnecting all of the cabin speakers. I didn't have any issues with my 404 mtx 4 channel. Upgraded to get more power.

Cool, thanks for the tips. The amp will crap out even if the crossover is off. I have checked power, ground, and remote, but not the speakers. Will try that next. Thanks

What are the details of your setup? 2 amps, one for cabin and one for sub? Can you take a pic of your settings and post it? I'm guessing its the MTX 404 that came with your boat? What do you have to do to get the amp working again? Want to make sure it's not clipping as well.
