ok so my amp started cutting off and a light saying short was coming on, after ohming out all of the speakers i found the guilty culprit and took it apart looking for an answer, i found the mounting bolt holding the bracket to the speaker was touching the circuit board for the bypass filter attached to the top of the housing, dropping the resistance to less than .5 ohm, I took the bolt and ground off 3 threads and now the stereo is back to blasting eardrums!!!

anyone else with stereo option 2 having this problem you might just take 20 minutes and try this to avoid leaving your boat at the dealer, just grind off a few threads of each bracket bolt

my speakers were wired in series and took the ohms down to 2. I had to wire them in series to get the ohms to match my amp. I am going to pull two more speaker wires this winter so that i can get the optimum sound and quality from them.

i thought the same thing and ran two more wires to the tower, and hooked up the tower speakers to the 400 watt amp one speaker on each channel, only to still have a problem, the first giveaway was I couldn't hear the voice coil on the damaged speaker, after I figured out what was wrong and fixed it, I hooked the system up back the way malibu recommends, adjusted the gains to where the speakers don't clipp or sound bad at max volume, your amp can handle a 2 ohm load and it helps the amp put out max power too, but in my case less than 1/2 ohm is where the amp draws the line..... I had the factory wiring diagram e-mailed to me direct from malibu and they recommend keeping the positive and negative for each pair tied together to stay at 2 ohms. I just spent a little time with different music adjusting the gains, I will probably have to turn them down with the engine running due to the voltage change on the system but I have them really close right now.... when I picked up my boat from the dealer the in boat speakers were hooked up wrong and the settings on the amp were way off.. They had the input sensitivity set to X10 with all the gains turned as low as they can go. MTX says to keep the input at X1 with rca cables. I finally have it dialed in now.......!

I already upgraded to a 900 watt 4 channel amp so it will have a channel for each speaker. Had the same setup on my malibu and it really sounded good.
