How do you distribute the weight in your boat when trailering?

I notice I get a pretty good sway when I hit 65 mph. I rarely trailer with anything more than half a tank of gas in the boat, but I have been taking the bindings off of my boards to get them in the rear lockers. I have been afraid to keep them on the floor because I don't want them to shift and scratch the gel under the seats. There just doesn't seem to be many other options to move the weight around in the boat to stop the sway.

I know I shouldn't be going that fast but let's face it. Everyone is excited to get on the water.

Coming from a DD I could trailer at 75 and never had a problem. Which makes me thinks it's a weight distribution problem.

What boat and what kind of trailer and how many axles? Our A24 trailers very straight and the rear compartments are usually loaded with crap. I pull at roughly the same speed, maybe a smidge faster.

If it's one of the torsion bar style trailers I wonder if you have the trailer level? It doesn't seem like having boards in the back should be enough to alter the balance enough to cause that much sway.

It's a 2017 A22, tandem axle. Not sure what type of trailer it is. Is there an easy way to tell?

When it's hooked up to the Durango it looks level eye balling it. The vehicle does have self leveling shocks so wouldn't think it would be a leveling issue.

It shouldn't sway at all, I tow 70mph quite often no issues and being a 17 trailer I believe is built by malibu

Unhook the Trailer, put it on the support wheel in front and get a scale under the support wheel. If that shows between 240 and 330lbs everything should be fine.

I noticed my 16 A20 swaying a bit but as soon as i flipped my 2" hitch up to make it level it made a huge difference, I know shorter trailers tend to sway a little easier but just raising it those 2" and distributing the weight to both axles instead of more being on the front axle helped alot.

On a side note: Did u get your P&P figured out and get the vent items?

I will try weighing the tongue weight. I thought it would sway from too much weight on the back axle.

I have been really busy at work so haven't had a chance to send my bag I bought from wakemakers back yet, to get credit for my account. But I do have everything I need in my cart that I need now. Thanks again for all of your help. Hopefully I will have it all installed in two weeks once the weather and drift gets off of our lakes here.

I have the same problem with my T22. I always thought that it had to do with the trailer being level but apparently not. I start to sway around 70-75. My solution is to stay below that speed. Probably best to do that anyway and may prevent a blown tire at some point

Boatmate trailers had problems with low tounge weight. My a24 was 170lbs :( now up at 410 and much better! Get a scale off Amazon or find a local trailer shop with one.

Even 330 would be on the low side imo. I like 9-10 percent of total weight so if you are 4k lb boat and 1500 lb trailer I would like to be at 500 plus.
