Ive been chasing down a leak as we have had the bilge kick on for a while at the end of the day while we have been surfing. After crawling all over in the engine bay and going over every ballast hose/fitting/pump i decided to crawl in the back corners while the boat was moving and weighted down, at least with the wedge and hard tanks. Sure enuff it was pouring in where the top and bottom deck are siliconed together. Look like the factory workers screwed into the silicon from the outside and removed the screws. These 3 or 4 screw holes in the silicone between the decks were allowing an unacceptable amount of water to come in especially during surfing when its weighted to the rub rail and the suc-gate is on. I will plug the holes with new silicone and run a new bead from the inside but ideally you remove the rub rail from the outside and seal it up there also. Anybody know how difficult it is to remove the rubrail or am i opening up a can of worms trying to do so?

This should be covered by warranty. I could contact your local dealer before proceeding. If you are out of warranty, call Malibu. Obviously a factory defect and they should be willing to work with a dealer to get this fixed.

At least there is not a separation between the top and bottom deck. A few holes to fill sounds like a minimal repair. Like Raimie said if you are under warranty let the dealer fix that for you. If you need to do it yourself hopefully you can do it from the back seam and not have to remove the entire rail.

Ya im out of warranty and the closest malibu dealer worth taking the boat to is 2 hrs away. I think i would be better off just siliconing the screws holes from the back side and go from there. I only posted in hopes of helping someone else chasing down a surf leak. You would never find this leak if you didnt sit in the storage compartment while under way. Ill post some pics this afternoon to show exactly where im talking about.

I would strongly recommend against taking off the rub rail. Try to fill the holes first and see where that gets you. Still might at least be worth a call/email with pics to Malibu. Maybe you'll get something out of it.

I did not know you could reach them. If you do have easy access from the inside I would just fill those up.

Spoke to the service manager of the dealership i got the boat from just to document the issue in case more extensive repairs are needed.

Why there is a corner bead on the axis plastic rubrail with screws, that had to come off to fix problem I had as well

Did you ever figure it out?

If you start to pull the rub rail off from the rear but do not completely remove it, it shouldn't be too difficult to get back on. I replaced one this summer and noticed the same holes. I filled them with silicone too.
