If the wave seems too tall and steep, I move weight forward (usually people) and increase speed. If it seems too short and long, I slow down, move weight back, put wedge down etc. I can get around on a 360, but can't quite do it fast enough to stay on the wave though, so don't listen to me too much.
Do your run up so that you end up low on base of wave very near the platform, with your eyes glued to opposite back corner of boat during your run up , using your head and eyes to lead your rotation by looking over the shoulder with your chin over your shoulder. spot that opposite corner as you come around and maybe a little pump and your there and because of your eyes you will ride it away because your board is now pointing down the curl of the wave. It's the head that sets the "speed" so you don't come around slowly and its the eyes that stop
The rotation where you want it(many opp of you over rotate and can't stop). Eyes not moving, head not moving and rotation stops
Also learn to ride backside well to increase comfort level when you are switch heelside during the 360, many do 180, 180
