Hey guys, looking for some help. Im having an issue with a loud buzzing coming from ONLY my tower speakers... ONLY when the boat is running OR and accessory (ballast pumps, etc) is running. When only the stereo is turned on (turning key back) it plays fine. Any ideas what may be causing this? Ive disconnected all speakers connections to amp and reconnected them, no change.

As a side note, if it is a faulty amp (alpine) then this will be the second amp within 3 years of owning the boat. The first one was covered under warranty within the first 8 months....

As a temporary fix for my boat I put a filter between the amp and stereo. I don't know why that fixed my problem. I don't know exactly what my dealer did to actually fix it but I know it had to do with the ground I believe

Sounds like a ground loop isolator.

To the OP:

Most likely you have a grounding issue. All of your system components should be grounded at the same location. I know on my '14 A22 I had to rewire the head unit to the same location as my amps and EQ. This eliminated all the unwanted noise in my system.

tried changing out rcas from head unit (sony) to amp, no change. New Y connectors in between the amp and the head unit. No change. Jumpered the head unit ground directly to the battery, no change. The service shop has run out of ideas and basically said live with it, everyone does....

Any other ideas guys? Its really not terrible, Can only hear it and very low volumes AND if your ears are close to the tower speakers. But it still bothers the hell out of me.

I had similar demons in my stereo and finally got them all out. I recommend checking the ground/power wires, even to the point of removing it from the amp and then reinserting it and tighten it down. Mine was cause of a slightly loose ground wire and a bad set of RCA cables. I also ran my stereo power and 420 directly to my batteries. I hope my info helps.

Make sure that both power and ground are common to your amps. This means that your HU and any other audio accessories (like an EQ if you have one) get BOTH power AND ground from a common source. The easy way to do this is just to extend the yellow (HU power) and black (HU ground) wires to your amp(s) and jam them up the corresponding power connections on the amp.

You mentioned that you'd tried grounding the HU right to the battery. That's not enough. You need to run BOTH power and ground. And doing it to the battery really isn't right either. Run them to the offending amp and then report back.

Sounds like common ground and power issue

My towers only had a hiss upon delivery it was a loose rca at the amp, then I installed a ws420 and had a god awful white noise when running. But ran new power and ground to the amp distribution blocks for the Hu and 420 and that took care of it.
