For all of us DIY guys, how boat a step by step on oil changing, transmission servicing and everything else that goes along with owning a v drive. I realize that most folks have a good dealership relationship, but my dealer is a pretty good distance from me and I just enjoy doing stuff myself any way. I have a pretty good mechanical ability and have worked on inboards in the past but I am sure this one is different. Thank in advance for any input!

Don't buy a cheap electric pump... they don't work

Run the boat for 10 minutes to heat up the oil.

I put the extractor hose into the oil drain hose and suck it out. In the 5.7 model I sucked the oil out through the dipstick. If I don't get all the oil out. I will add a quart and suck that out too. It takes about 20 min to get it all out.

Remove the oil filter - I usually put a plastic bag around the filter so it it catches the oil. I replace the filter with a Napa gold 1069. If the !@#$ wont come off, I have removed the remote filter bracket (leaving all the hoses attached) and taken a large pipe wrench to the filter (work on it in the storage locker).

Put oil back into the engine and run it again... check the oil level.

I use the same method on the oil filter and the plastic bag- works great. Just make sure you fill the filter with oil halfway before putting it on and applying some fresh oil to the o-ring before installing. makes it easier to remove next time.

If you buy a male brass end for the oil drain tube, 2 female garden hose ends, and some tubing, it works fine as long as you heat up the engine running before you change the oil. The tubing was the same width as the oil drain hose. Total cost on it was about 20 bucks.

Here's a DIY 'fake a lake' you don't have to pay 40 bucks for. Total cost is about 10 dollars and allows you to heat the oil in the driveway. When make the hole for the brass hose fitting, make sure to make it much smaller than the fitting to prevent water loss. I used a large screwdriver. I use the wood to bridge the gap between the handle and driveway. Make sure to monitor it and don't rev the engine.
