I'm just learning how to surf and getting tired of chasing the board, does anyone use a teather/leash? If so which one Do you like and how long? Any drawbacks?

I agree it's a good idea. Let us know what you come up with.

I don't think it's a very good idea to have a leash. I would hate to see the weird and freak accident where the board shoots forward, leash wraps around swim deck or something else and you get drug by the boat for a few seconds. Or the rope you are using gets hooked on the leash somehow.

A little bit of swimming is worth the piece of mind. I try to ditch the rope ASAP and also teach all the beginners on my boat the dangers of the rope prior to them getting in the water and have trained my kids to yell at beginners if they start doing something dumb with the rope. I see a leash being another possible injury point. You don't have the power of the ocean and wave after wave breaking, taking your board to shore behind a boat

Yup, not a good idea in my opinion. Leash and proximity to prop equals bad things. I've surfed ocean years ago and a leash is necessary out there but behind a boat I see potential for a prop accident and not to mention it would just be lame looking.

It does kinda suck to swim after your board every now and then but really how far away is it. I've never had to swim more than 20-25 ft before. It's not that bad.
And to add to the above posts. Ropes are the most dangerous things on a boat. I would never attach one to myself

It's a terrible idea. I had a girl wakesurf for her first time on my boat once, she no roped it and killed it. BUT she gets in the water holding her head saying it hurt a little bit. We looked and it was bleeding pretty bad. She said the board somehow knocked her head as she fell. 8 staples to the head later, I always wrap up in a ball and covered my head when I fall and come up out of the water. Anything to make the board stay closer to you when you fall is a bad idea.

Well looks like I'm swimming! Lots of good points, we only surf when it's to
Rough to wakeboard and when you fall the board really takes off between the waves and boat wake. Thanks for all the input

If you're really good you can grab the board as you sink in (typically, an intermediate surfer goes off the back of the wave still on the board rather than actually falling) so it doesn't shoot away as it comes up. But what else are you going to do while the boat turns around other than swim over to the board?
