You are definitely safer if you rotate the racks inside the boat, but why risk it? To me it's similar to leaving the bimini up while towing - the bimini (and boards in the racks) will be fine at boat speeds, so if you're towing at no greater than boat speeds you should be ok. On the roads, though, there are other hazards you don't have on the water - other vehicles close, sign posts and telephone poles, trees with low branches, etc. It's so easy to just take them down, I'd feel really stupid if something bad happened because I was lazy.

I figure if you aren't driving faster than your boat goes, no big deal. But I always am, so I don't drive with them in the racks.

I've never lost a wakeboard out of the rack, but I've had surfboards fly out several times. Usually riding decent chop into a headwind- you bounce up, the wind catches it, and zooom, it's way behind you.

I have never actually done it myself I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were. But I probably won't ever be doing it.

Well I was a dumb ass and left my board in the boat while in a padded case and it flew out of the boat at 35mph :( Image

I can give a little input on this..

I've had a number of new board sales over the last decade because of lost/damaged boards from board racks.

Clipped the gas pump on my way in.
Clipped the gas pump on my way out.
Clipped the boat ramp attendant station on the way in.
Clipped some trees driving down to the ramp.
Clipped the garage door when I put the boat in.
Clipped the boat storage door backing the trailer.
Thought my straps were on tight but I guess when I hit the highway they were not.

That is just a few of the ones I've heard over the years and imagine how many were not willing to admit the worst of them.

I would just not take the chance. but if you do.. Please keep Boardstop's number in your p. ;)

I spent a pretty penny on my soulcraft. It's the first thing that gets loaded into the truck or placed on the bed of my RV on the way home.

That stinks. What board?

We leave the wake and surf boards in the boat on the floor and seats. Never a problem for the 12 or so miles we have to go at 45-50mph max. I keep the windshield closed and plastic wind block panel in place while towing as well.
