I'm running into an issue when I pull my '16 A20 out of the water. I am able to get it up on the trailer to the point that the bow is tight against the roller and the winch strap is tight. However, when I pull up out of the water on to level ground the bow ends up being 3-4 inches away from the roller. I do use a fair amount of power to get the boat up on the trailer. Perhaps I need to put the trailer in deeper when retrieving? I expect it's either that I'm too deep or not deep enough with the trailer.

Any experience and advice you can share is much appreciated.

Bottom line...do whatever you need to with the trailer to get the bow eye the winch strap is hooked to to just about touch the bow stop roller. The bow eye should only be about 1/2"-1" from the bow stop roller. The hook itself will probably keep it from touching but you should barely be able to get 1 finger in between, if that, between the eye and roller. So back your trailer down more and keep cranking the winch until the bow eye gets to that 1/2"-1" to the roller. I had no issue with my A22 or A24 and I do this by myself all the time. Plus, your boat will trailer better because I guarantee your boat is bouncing on the trailer while you're towing if it's 3"-4" from being truly secure. Don't forget the transom tie down straps either. I'm not sure how far the A20's trailer needs to be in the water for optimal loading but on my A22 and A24 I back down until the front of the front 2 bunks just disappear underwater completely.

You might be to deep. The back of the boat is floating a bit above the bunks. Then you pull it out and it is able to slide back down and rotate away in the front (at the roller) and in at the bunks.
I have that problem when I am loading alone. I want the trailer deep so I can winch it a bunch. But then I pull it and what you describe happens. I just winch it the extra couple of inches.

I doubt he's too deep since he said he's using a "fair amount of power" to load it so he's power loading which a lot of boat owners consider unnecessary myself included. I can see just putting the throttle in "forward" to assist in winching the final few inches to snug up the bow eye to the roller because that's typical. However, no one should have to use a bunch of throttle to load the boat a couple or a few feet once the boat settles on the trailer. Again, just my opinion.

Thanks guys. I'll experiment with it next time I'm at the ramp. I'm heading out one evening this week and it should be pretty quiet there, unlike a weekend day.

AJwest I think you're on the right track. It did seem like I was having to use way more power than I should to get the boat to go up on the trailer. Obviously if the trailer is deeper the boat will float itself up onto the it.

wtstapel it's impossible to move the boat on the trailer once it's out of the water. I can crank on the winch and it maybe clicks once or twice but the boat doesn't pull up, it just pulls the winch strap tighter.

As a guide, just try and get the front of the front bunks (where it comes to a "v" and they almost touch) to barely disappear underwater or maybe an inch barely sticks up.

I'll try that. Thanks!

Follow up if you can, you might help another A20 guy out there struggling.

I've had the same issue with my 16' T23 a few times.

I have the same issue with my new 2016 A20. I pull it up until it's touching the roller and the winch strap is tight. When I pull it out of the water suddenly there are a couple of inches. I pulled it up really tight last time and it made no difference. Happened at the lake when I did a test drive as well; the dealer pulled it out and it was the same way. Maybe something is off with their trailer jig at the factory?
