I'm getting my new A20 very soon. I'm looking forward to the on-water delivery by the local dealer. This will be the first boat I own but I have quite a few years of boat experience and also PWC ownership/experience so I'm not a total noob.

That said, what are some things I should ask about and/or pay attention to during the maiden voyage along with the dealer?

With all the experience you all have here I expect you will help me with things I wouldn't have otherwise thought of on my own.

Thanks in advance!

You may already know this but something I learned when I had the show me how the ballast works (multiple boats for me but first inboard with ballast) is to check and burp the bags ? I prob would have never looked in the rear compartments to check the bags had they not told me.

Also my dealer told me not to drive faster than 27 with the wedge down! More experienced guys on here will prob confirm that! Congrats on the boat and welcome to the site!

I'm 3 weeks in and u r right the people on here are unbelievably helpful!

If you got standard malibu cruise control, make sure they calibrate it for you. Mine was off by 4mph.

I got the regular paddle wheel cruise control, not the GPS based cruise control. Is that what you're referring to?

Thanks for this info! I don't really know anything about the ballast system other than what I've seen on other people's boats and read about here. I will ask about burping the bags. I'm supposed to get PNP bags installed in my A20 but I'm not sure if they've come in yet at the dealer.

I would make them go over a day on the lake with you. have them set the boat for all the things you do.

If you surf then have them set the boat for surf so you know exactly what you need when you don't have the dealer with you. Have him go over every option of what you plan on doing on the water.

Since he is there I would make him go over all the switches and walk you around the boat so you know that everything is working correctly. I would even arrive before and after the boat launch so he can show you the correct way to load and unload the boat. The little things will make your days on the water less of a headache.

If you have never driven an inboard have them show you how the boat pulls when in reverse. Might be familiar with that from previous driving but if not have him go over it with all that will be driving the boat.

Don't be afraid to ask him anything that comes to mind. He would probably spend the day on the lake with you than be back in the shop anyway.. :)

Just to go along with what others are saying... ASK Questions!! As many as you can think of. If it comes to mind ask it. This is one of those no question is a dumb question time.

Excellent idea to go over everything you plan on doing on a day on the water.

Check the gel coat as well for defects. Check each and every seam and piping on the cushions. Plus what everyone else has said, just all systems and functions. Practice approaching a dock if you are not 100% competent on driving an inboard. It easily pulls to the right (prop rotation) so approach docks at approx 15-20 degrees slowly then a few feet away from the bow getting to the dock put it in reverse for a few seconds and the rear will slide in perfect. These boats can backup straight and if you know how or learn to "walk the prop" you can literally spin the boat 360 in place if you have tight docking situations. I can backup my A24 to slightly left if needed. There are TWO drain plugs...this is important lol. If you boat on crowded ramps I would definitely experiment with your A20's boat handling on a week day so you are confident about your skills and only have to worry about the guy on his Bayliner or the bulky pontoons.
