We just recently purchased a new T23 over the winter and I am interested in getting into surfing. I've grown up wakeboarding but have never tried to surf. What is a good board for me to learn on that won't break the bank? I'm 6'4 240lbs. I'd also like to be able to let my brothers learn on it as well if possible. They are 250 and 290lbs. We've got the 900lb sacs in the rear and the 450 up front plus obvious human ballast.

I suggest a Hyperlite broadcast...great starter board...the problem with this board is...you will out grow it very quick and wil not be satisfied with it. You have to start somewhere...it will be a good board of people to learn on... I like the Inland Surfer Blue Lake...it's real floaty and perfect for big guys. Just look at the boards as your quiver!
I just got my new T23 last week...I love this boat!

I assume the 5'6" broadcast? Yeah Im assuming it will get grown out of quickly just want something durable that can take a beating while we learn.

Red rocket is a great board imo but same thing, you will grow out of it pretty qucik. At 240 there are a lot more options than the 290 so might look into a quest or the new inland board the green room but your 290 lb brother will struggle with them both imo.

Walker Project Bazooka is rated right up to 290. There's a former as owner that was 395lbs and could surf this board behind an older A22 without surf gate. They had a crazy amount of ballast but your T23 has great push in the wave if ballast correct so it'll be up to the board and rider.

I'm a big fan of the ronix duke and Cortez. The duke rides like a nice surfboard and it's a great starter board... What I like about these boards are even after your done with them they are great to have because of the potential of your "crew" having newbies

Liquid Force just created the new Rocket entry level shape. We just received them in at Boardstop.

I always suggest a under $300 board just to have on the boat. Once you outgrow your entry level keep using it for your new riders and save your Inland, Phase 5 or other expensive board for yourself or until the beginners learn to not run up the back of your boat and destroy the tip of your $900 personal ride. ;)

That's my thought. Ill keep the beginner board around for them to learn on/as a boat board. Trying to keep that under $300 new/used. Once I get comfortable I'll go drop the coin on a nice one for just myself.

I picked up a CWB Keg last summer from a Marina at Norris for $200 and it was the first board I could go ropeless on. I'm 5'10" and 270lbs and we just got our T22 last year. Its still fun for me although I'm looking for something faster. I'll hang onto it though because it was cheap and was great to have to teach friends as well.

I'm interested in possibly moving up to a Red Rocket or a Bazooka sounds interesting....I just only have so many hours riding that I'm not all that great anyways so not sure what I want/need.
