I just spoke with a distributor last night about the DJI Drones. I am waiting on numbers and volume required to make this happen. Not sure if it will work out for us or not but I wanted to get an idea if people are interested.

I'm waiting on GoPro to release it's drone in 2016. The problem with DJI is you always have to have someone controlling it to record you while you are on the water. Some of the other drones have a remote you can keep on you that are water proof so record your session. I don't think my wife would like to drive the boat and control the drone...that may be asking too much!

We have an account with GoPro so we will be able to get those drones when they are released.

I agree a follow cam is a must.

I want something like Lilly but with a non integrated camera. I really want a drone but am in a holding pattern because prices are dropping so fast. I think these things might be half the price within a year.

DJI has those functions already, it was released a few months ago. Ive used the "Follow Me" function, and it works fairly well. I have a Phantom 3 Pro

It has a follow me option, but you have to have it in he air and have it centered on you to begin with. That means someone would still have to control the drone to start off...making it require more people on the boat or a wife that can do more than one thing at a time.

For how I'd like to use the drone I think I'd have a hard time spending a lot of money on something that is not waterproof and does not float.

I wouldn't operator the drone without having the controller in my hand at all times. But if you really wanted your wife to fly the drone and drive its possible.

It has auto take-off feature, so use that, and get it in the air. Set the follow me option and it will do the rest. You dont have to "center" it on you.

If you really want an option like the lily, where you just throw it and forget it, you can do that. But you will not get as high quality footage as something that has a 3 axis gimbal and shoots 4k (like the phantom 3 pro). Unless there was a waterproof drone, that had a waterproof gimbal, with a waterproof camera. Unfortunately, theres no such device.

I fly my drone over water almost exclusively. Crashing it into the water will 99% of the time be user error.

I'm banking on something like the Lilly but with a gimbal being available soon and the prices to drop.
