We board every time we're out and surf occasionally. I love wakeboarding and my kids always want to surf. If I was big on surfing I don't think they would mention boarding very often. I feel like surfing requires little effort and you don't push yourself. I want my kids to take advantage of being on a wakeboard since the age of 5 and be able to throw down on one.
I respectfully disagree and have a different point of view with the common saying that wakesurfing you "don't push yourself". Stuart, if you would, please elaborate on "pushing yourself" in wakeboarding vs wakesurfing? Both require endurance, both require balance, both require timing, both have a mental aspect, both are great exercise, but only one really hurts with face slams, catching a backside edge and slamming your head, or blowing out knees or ankles. Are you saying the risk of injury in wakeboarding vs wakesurfing qualifies as "pushing yourself"? I come from the thinking that if you're wanting to excel in anything then you're pushing yourself. Whether you land your first 360 in wakeboarding or wakesurfing the stoke and excitement is still there.
