Hello all,

I am moving out to Denver from Virginia at the beginning of October - long drive. Boat will be joining me on the trip.

First, does anyone know how to identify the travel cover vs, say, a mooring cover?

Mine only has two ratchets in back and three buckles, but it does wrap over the rub rail.

And yes, I have read the issues people have had with towing with the cover on, scuffing the gel coat and what not - is this something I could combat with fleece or maybe saran wrap on the corners/edges that the cover would be rubbing the most?

I assume nobody trailers with their hangtyte in place either.

And, does anyone have any pointers other than tire pressure, working lights, spares, for towing long distance? I am probably going to use painters tape to cover a majority of the front hull and windshield, maybe use saran wrap or wd-40 on the speakers, racks, tower and mirror arm.

Thanks in advance

You don't want to tow with the cover off? Id just fold the tower down, tape up the bow and run with it.

Tower down really? I feel like I would need to make a brace or something to hold it off the seats and those 410's are pretty dang heavy!

I am pretty dead set on no cover, but I wanted to know regardless.

I have a 2011 A22, and I always tow with my cover on. I have owned the boat for 4 seasons now. I don't see any scuffs or scratches from towing with the cover on at all. My cover is the kind that has a buckle at each tower arm and a ratchet in the back. I leave the pole down when towing, no issue.

I always tow with cover off and wrap my tower with shrink wrap. Towing with cover on won't leave big scratch or scuffs but if you look closely the gel will have tiny micro scratches where the cover rubs. Plus covers are expensive so why put it through that beating. If I see rain coming while on the road I'll put cover on without the pole in.

I've trailered both ways long distance with no ill effects either way.

The directions I got said NOT to trailer with the cover hanging from the tower so I remove that.

I set tires to 50psi, make sure to have a good spare and a floor jack rather than relying on the trucks jack as well as a 2x6 or something to be able to set it on/drive on if needed like the ground is soft and the jack sinks into the ground. Also make sure you have a lug wrench that fits the lug nuts and clears the wheel/tire/fender when turning.

I've never used tape/saran wrap on the boat but I do have rocktamers on my hitch that usually knocks away rocks and such, as far as the tower I really haven't noticed any issues besides bug guts on the bimini cover but I usually just pull it off and hose it off when I get home.

Drive safe and take it easy, tires heat up on long distance drives especially speeding.

Here's what I used when I put my tower down in the garage:

Although, when towing, I never put the tower down. Just make sure to have something for protection from truck spitting up rocks and you're good to go. You don't need the cover on, just make sure to clean the bugs off when you arrive.

You could get a 3' piece of a 2x4 and saddle one end like they use to ship the boats with to support the tower and speakers, I have quick release clamps on my speakers so I just pull em off and rest the tower on a throw cushion, I've towed with it up and down and to me it's easier to fold the tower while towing than it is to clean the bugs off after you get where you're going, faster to fold than debug....

I routinely tow long distances (6 hours each way) with tower up and cover on. No problems yet, but the saran wrap solution seems reasonable.

I towed my T22 with tower up and cover on round trip from Orlando to Nantahala NC. Didn't have any trouble. On the way home, lots of rain and I got small rip in cover at the rubber stopper for the windshield; wind pressure pushed down on the cover. I also got a small rip on the bow tip at the buckle strap. Had lots of gear in the boat, cover was necessary.

Now I put a cut tennis ball on the stopper.

I've heard that the tower has best structural integrity when up. I also hate the way the arms fold on the 2015 tower.
