I received a mission prototype surfgate a few weeks ago and have since surfed with it about a half a dozen times. This particular model works with the 2010 platform in both the A20 and A22.
First let me say the customer service received from Kris at Mission was excellent and the surf was even better. I don't need to explain what surfgate does, but I can tell you that set-up for surf is just about as easy as it is for wake-boarding.
My preference is all ballast full, wedge down, and an additional 500-1000 lbs in the center or bow. Kris recommends a 60/40 split on weight and I agree. I have two 900lbs plug and play sumo sacks in the rear and I estimate they were about 3/4 full with a ronix telescoping 1100lbs sack about 3/4 full.
The build quality of the surfgate is just as I expected. The surfgate was very well thought out and athletically appealing. It comes fully assembled and ready to go with no drilling or modification to the platform of any sort. Just slide it on and secure it to the transom tie down. The strap provide works great, but I took it just one step further like the picture shows below. It looks a bit on the crude side with what I have done and will be looking to make a more visually appealing securing system later. Installing and securing takes about 15 seconds. The strap provided now looks far more simplistic and effective taking even less time to install. The mission surfgate has not scratched the gel coat of the boat or swim platform as I thought it probably would. It won't budge once the transom link is tight.
Also, it floats. The strap you can't really see in the first picture is not what is provided now. It broke my second time out and I had to back track a few hundred yards to find it floating where is broke off.
