We have read several blogs and forums discussing the proper approach to cleaning and maintaining vinyl surfaces and thought we would share a few ideas.
Some of the discussions talked about using magic eraser, aggressive cleaners, mild cleaners, multi-surface cleaners, using scrub brushes, cloth and more.
We subscribe to the theory that you start with warm water and a mild soap. I have used a terry cloth towel for this first step on several occasions. And, this is what the marine vinyl manufacturers recommend - at least as a first approach. Always test in an inconspicuous area first, perfect your technique and then replicate across a wider area.
And, avoid anything with an abrasive surface. Leave as much material there for the long haul.
When mild soap and warm water is not enough, we recommend that you use a vinyl cleaner and conditioner. There are many different cleaners on the market but cleaning is only the half of it. You must protect the surface.
