So I have a 2015 T23 with a 409 with about 50 hours on it, less than 2 months old. On the last two outings when the engine is warm, I am frequently having to work much harder than I think I should have to in order to start the engine. When I first bought it, it always started up the first try. Then after a while, occasionally it was the 2nd. Now, it is sometimes the 3rd or 4th. Not always, but frequently enough to be annoying, a little scary to my passengers, and embarrassing since the darn thing is brand new.

What causes this sort of issue and what can I do about it? Is the answer, "Drag it down to the dealership and demand they fix it?" Is that within the range of normal? Higher octane gas? More fuel conditioner? New spark plugs?

its a 2015 take it back to the dealer its not an old carbed 350 it should fire up first try, might be a crank sensor etc. going out.

To chime in, my 2014 a24 with about 60 hours on the 5.7 has developed a starting issue too. Most of the time it starts right up, no problems what so ever, even when warm. If it sits overnight however it cranks for about 4-5 seconds before it actually fires up... I initially thought I had left the key on for too long before starting it possibly flooding it but it can happen regardless of key position. FWIW, I always switch it to 1 battery and remove the key when it sits overnight all covered up...

Wish I had something more valuable to add to this.

You need to check your fuel pressure when this is happening. If it is low it can cause the engine to take longer to start.

If its fuel pump related you could also turn the key to the on position and wait a few seconds to turn it further to start it. That will give it time to build fuel pressure if that's an issue. At least worth a try.

Dropped it off at the dealership morning. I had a check engine light on briefly too, forgot to mention that. Hopefully they're related.

I swear it's like I have partial custody lately. They have the boat Monday to Thursday and I get it all weekend, only to take it back Monday morning.

Dealership can't find the trouble code (to be fair, the check engine light was only very briefly on) and says it's all pilot error. They couldn't reproduce the problem in the shop. Tells me to wait a few seconds until all the beeping is done before turning the key to start. We'll see how it goes this weekend.

I have the 409 and fires up easy. I also wait until all the beeps stop then turn the ignition all the way.

I had it out for several hours this weekend. I was very patient and made sure all beeps had stopped, then waited a few more seconds. Still took 2 tries to start a couple of times, and a couple more times seemed to take longer than it should (5+ seconds.) But it didn't go to 3-4 times like it did the weekend before. I'll keep an eye on it for now.

Check the distributor cap, mine got water in it and corroded the contacts, it was starting hard then started misfiring.
