Yep, took 41 gallons to fill up this morning, I guess my gas gauge gives up at 1/4 tank

Mine too. I found this out last summer. I didn't have the distance to travel like you did though.

Found out last year mine was just the opposite. Ha. I ran out, but was only couple hundred feet from ramp.

LOL. 3rd time out I had that happen. I'm still not familiar with the digital fuel gauge coming from my 96 Malibu that had analog gas gauge with a typical needle. Fortunately I made it the ~5 miles back to the dock but it had NOTHING showing when I finally noticed and I have no idea how long I had ran it that low. Definitely butt puckering! Glad you made it back.

When the gauge in my A24 says empty I still have 18 gallons in the tank.

I did that with gibster last day of the season lsat year. We surfed until nothing showed, then surfed for another 30-45 min. Winterized the boat and put it up for the winter. Towed it to the dealership for 100 hour service early this spring and it ran out of gas on them. Glad it made it through winterization.
