Howdy forum. I recently got my first (the 20 hr) service performed and I was appalled at the labor cost. According to my invoice it looks like the oil, oil filter, and tranny fluid was changed, costing $80 for parts (that's fine), but the labor ran $238. Am I just being cheap or is that inflated? Curious to what other folks have paid...

Thanks for your response.

Labor is probably around $100-$125 per hour... So they charged for around 2 hours.

B.O.A.T. or learn how to turn wrenches. Oil changes are STUPID easy.

I'm curious about this as well as I need to take my boat down for this service around the end of the month. Is there a breakdown of what is recommended at what hour intervals?

Any details on how easy this is? Any concern over not having receipts for work performed for warranty work/resale/etc?

My dealer strongly recommended having my initial service done by them. He said on the new crusader engines it was recommended after 10 hrs and they change engine oil and filter and replace the fuel filter per the manual. He said after 10 hours, he even recommended I do it myself as its cheaper and they are usually swamped during the season.

I was going to say around $240 total..

I have seen shop rates from $75-125 depending on the shop. $75 is really low. I bet the average is $100-110.

1. It should be in your owner's manual. It was for the Indmar package.

2. Keep all receipts for the supplies purchased. I know in the automotive world, this is enough to cover you on proving that the work was done.

I would steer away from doing the 20 hour or 100 hour services yourself. The boat is under warranty and if something happens to it after you personally do the maintenance then you would have to prove that you did the services and did them correctly. After the 100 hour I think you should be fine. But those first 2 services are crucial.

Just checked with my dealer. Have to get it done soon. $323.00 WOW!! My manual says 25 hours for first service not 20. I asked the dealer and they said to follow the manual.
