So many of us on here have one of the best wakeboard boats every made as far as wake quality goes but seems like no one talks about their riding. I'll go first. I'm 43yrs old and consider myself a solid beginner rider: W2W 180 both heel and toe-side with various grabs and/or pokes, W2W switch, heelside W2W 360, and I like lip tricks (inside to outside wake), and basic surface tricks (360, Ollie 180 frontside and backside). To be honest, I've never tried any kind of backroll or tantrum. The fear of blowing out a knee frightens me. However, I've spoken with some good riders that do inverts and they say they can do 2-3 different inverts but can't do a W2W 360 and they say, in their opinion, a W2W 360 is harder than a back roll or tantrum. I'm still riding my 2011 Slingshot Reflex with 2012 Ronix One bindings. Its not the wakeboard holding me back I don't think I'll need a new wakeboard anytime soon and I like the characteristics of the 2011-2012 Slingshot Reflex

Good thread. I'm 28 and this will be my third season wakeboarding behind an Axis, well any inboard actually. I learned how to get up the previous season behind an I/O, but that was my first experience on a wakeboard. I feel like I push myself a little harder because I got a late start.

Season 1 behind the A20: Got my heel side wake to wakes down and started to get toe side wake to wake towards the end of the season. Also tried to get comfortable riding switch.

Season 2 behind the A20: Got toe side wake to wake consistent. I added a few grabs to my heel side wake to wakes and took them bigger to the flats. Started practicing inside out 180s, and started landing toe side wake to wake 180s consistently. I was really close to landing 180s heel side too. Also got surface 360s down and progressed my switch riding a lot.

Season 3 behind the new '15 A22: TBD. First time on the board yesterday and took a couple warm up sets with stock ballast only. I just did some wake to wake pops, nothing too serious since we are still breaking the boat in. The wake is already amazing.

First, you should look into getting a pair of knee braces to wakeboard with. My dad has knee problems and wears these (coincidentally they are EVS Axis Pro knee braces):

He can still switch and jump the wake.

I'm 27, and a jack of all trades behind the boat (except you will never see me surfing). I'm no pro at anything but above average at everything (slalom ski, wakeboard, kneeboard, hydrofoil/air-chair, barefoot, tube, trick-ski).
I ride a connelly concept and a connelly carbon V slalom ski, HO Joker knee board, Liquid Force Harley wakeboard, AirChair-hydrofoil, and size 10.5 my own two feet -barefoot haha. I ride behind a 2013 A20.

I also cannot invert any of the toys (except tube) and that is my goal, but I can clear the wake on everything and do a few tricks non-inverted.

^^^ I haven't barefoot since early 90's but boy it was fun. Had a buddy with a Barefoot Nautique back in the day. Don't think I could fold up into a kneeboard either nowadays but back when kneeboarding was the craze I cannot believe I didn't know about sitting on a slalom buoy ball for kneeboarding.

I am 31 years old and I have been riding for 4 years now. I got w2w down consistently and was trying toe side w2w last year and landed a couple. I haven't tried much this summer so far. I have been a little to busy to get as much water time as I did last year and when I have rode, I seem to tire out pretty fast. I can do inside out 180s and surface tricks and some grabs, not with much style though. I want to get more comfortable riding switch before I take it w2w.

I ride the Slingshot Lyman with Rad boots. I typically ride at 70' and 22.7mph. I plan to shorten the rope this weekend and try riding at 22mph and work on my toe side w2w.

Also, I need to ride behind my wake more often. Lately it seems like I have been riding behind my Axis wake only 25% of time. The other time is spent on an older 2000 Malibu LSV with little weight, a 2000 Tige 2300v with a washy wake, or that G21.

Watching Zucky ride and doing pretty much 90% surface tricks made me slow down my riding, shorten the rope, and trying to control the board better. I worked on controlling the board on the surface and basic ollies, riding and sliding regular, switch, and backside sliding because of how easy this guy makes it look. It also inspired me to work on lip tricks (Ollie of the wake with a grab), inside to outside small stuff. It lets you mix up your riding instead of being a "heelside hero" so to speak

Completely agree, AJ. Last season I saw the most progression when I dumped the weight, shortened the rope, and slowed it down. I landed my first 180 that same day. Focusing on the basic fundamentals is important or you'll eventually hit a wall in your progression.

I'm 29, been behind a DD inboard for most of my life skiing/footing/kneeboarding and wakeboarding with NO wake, lol. This is my first wakeboard/v-drive boat with ballast/wedge/etc so I'm looking forward to learning a lot this summer and on. I ride regular and am pretty comfortable riding around, could clear the wake and do basic grabs behind my 96 Malibu so I'm sure I'll be able to fly behind the T22 and want to work on getting more comfortable riding goofy so I can hopefully learn some 180's/360's and eventually a flip/roll would be sweet.

I also badly want to get an air-chair. Looks like a blast.

pretty much same as AJWest in terms of skill. 29 yo... been struggling with my 360 lately. Need to take it back to 20 mph and practice it.

Been trying to learn a backroll but struggling. Getting better at them, but still not close to landing it.
