We have a friend that recommended trying a mixture of water and few drops of peppermint oil. He sprays his pontoon boat with it regularly when he covers it and says he has no spider issues. I tried it to late in the season to know if it works or not but the little I did try, it seemed to help. Will try it more regularly next year.

Works great and lasts at least 6 weeks ... we spray the lines, lift cables, tower, post bases and tops as well as our cross members on the boat house. Shit's toxic so dont breathe it in ... spray down wind or at least wear a mask and goggles. our 40'x40' dock and 2 boats takes about 3 cans.

Tried everything last year. The peppermint and water, did nothing. Tried the spider sprays (couple different brands) did nothing. Spiders were horrible this past summer the worst I have every seen. The only thing that seemed to help at was dryer sheets, helped a little.

Do you guys have lights on your lift that are in all night? The sliders are going to the lift and boat for a reason, it is usually food (insects), and they are drawn by lights or heat. Just an idea of why the spiders are there...

No we don't have any lights at all around the pier. Nothing like opening the Bimini and having a bunch fall on your head. Stuffed a bunch of dryer sheets up there and that did seem to lessen them.

Maybe try and attract bats? We have a ton of bats at our summer house and no spiders or mosquitos :)
