I'm looking at buying a used Axis and I'm having a hard time finding any used ones with the 400hp motor. I live in Colorado and I'm frequently at lakes from 5,500' to 7,500'. I also go out pretty regularly with 8 people, would i regret buying one with the 335hp motor or could i get by with it.

Call the guys at mile high wakeboarding and see what horsepower they usually run in their boats, they are just north of Denver and would know quite a lot about the propping and how much ballast you can get away with, mine needed propped @ 3000ft with full ballast and pnp but with just the factory 900 and wedge I think you will be ok with the high altitude prop

If you plan on running full PnP (even with the small bags in the back) you will regret getting the 335! I just picked up a black/yellow A22 from Tommy's and I live in Grand Junction. Mine has the 400 and the one lake we ride is at around 7500 ft. It will barely pull the PnP with 8 people and the wedge down! We usually have to lift the wedge because it just takes forever to get on plane! On the lower lakes, though, it has no problems at all! The most we did was full PnP, wedge, 7 people, and 1800 lbs of fat sacks at 5k ft. and it did great!

blows my mind how much altitude can starve an engine. I'd want to slap a vortech or paxton supercharger on there.
