I had the same thing happening. I researched and figured out that the amp was going into protect mode like mentioned above. What I found is that the amp is tuned with gains etc to max volume with the DSO and equilizer on the head unit turned off. If you have the DSO on like 3 and the equalizer in the head unit on and then blast it you get what is called cross phasing and the amp notices it and kicks out to protect itself. After I figured this out I have had no issues. So when I have a rider behind me I turn my head unit stuff off and blast away. When sitting still or just cruising where I don't need the volume say over 35ish I use the DSO and equilizer settings on my head unit to enhance the sound quality. Hope this helps! I haven't had an issue since I figured out what was happening.
