I'm with you I have been burnt a time or two when placing a had on the platform and step down pad when its not wet. If you forget to wet the platform you can always spread a towel out before you get on the platform.

Ditto on what SDUKES said. Based on what all you said it seems that the best route is to just throw a towel down and step onto it. Either that or wear flip-flops. I cringed as I typed that. Hopefully you will go the towel route. Best of luck. I know that you will enjoy your new boat.
