anybody ever surfed behind one? I have rich friends one with a g23 with NSS and a wake setter with surf gate and if I had to chose ...... NSS is killing it. which got me to wondering if (imo) NSS is better for those using the add on surf stuff why not make our add on more like NSS it seems like a more simple design, it could still mount the same ..... thoughts ? anybody tinkered with there surf gate to change for the better?

My understanding is that the NSS and the SurfGate work on the same principals of delaying the wakes converging on your non surf side. With that being said, I don't know that its the surf system or the hull making the most impact in the wake shape.

It's the hull, not so much the system. Try it on YOUR boat and let us know.

There was a forum on WakeWorld where a guy made a nss for his supra. Looked pretty cool and look like it would work.

Another sample. If one was happy with a manual system, it wouldn't be too hard to fashion a bracket that could stay in place and then it would just be a matter of pulling the board.

I agree that both systems work on the same principle, but there has to be something to the plate being perpendicular to the water vs at an angle. There is nothing I can do about the hull but in comparison nss wave is exactly what a woman wants bigg, long, tall, and firm and I find surf gate to be more like me short and stumpy and not as firm as it could be. Lol .....

That's a good start, might play a little bit and see what I can find ...... My wife is getting tired of all this research so might have give it a rest for a while

So I modified my redneck surf gate ....... I changed the angle the paddle sticks out (changed front cut from 1 3/4 to 1 1/4) and removed the angled cut from the paddle( paddle is verticle instead of at an angle.) Change to the wake was positive before with original cuts it was a bit soft on top with a strong push in the wake troff length was decent but you had to really know how to pump if you got to far back. New cuts wave is firm from top to bottom, with great push in close and still strong a little further out of the pocket. Makes me really want to try different ideas

Here is the one I made for my weekend at the cabin. I started it at a pretty sharp angle because I just have to cut the back pole shorter to adjust the angle in.

For the first time we have been able to surf without the rope with just my wife and I in the boat. I had to soften the angle once already because steering sucked. I cut an inch off the back pole and it was better but I will probably end up making level with the outside of the hull so steering is better.
