Axis Wakeboard Boat Forum

Well I demoed this board at the beginning of the month down at Gaston and I just can't stop thinking about it. I've been riding a Soulcraft Squash 58 for 3 years now and last year I kinda felt like it was too big for me. After watching pictures and videos of me riding it I began to feel that even more.

Well the Aku had just come in and Caroline at Overby Marine was nice enough to let me demo the Aku in a 53 model. They make a 53, 56, and 58. The sticker on the back of the 53 said rated to 185, the 56 to 200, and the 58 to 225. Well I weigh 160 wet so I figured lets check it out and it was a game changer! Fins out of the water, back foot where it needed to be not 5" before the back. My wife was gonna buy me the board for my Birthday but I wanted to stew on it and maybe try a few more boards. I got in touch with Shortbus as they are local here but haven't had the time to ride any of their boards. I was looking at the lineup, and didn't see anything shape wise to the Aku.

I went out the other day and rode a friends Squash 56 and it was not much better.

I think I just want to pull the trigger and grab the Aku. Any thoughts or opinions?

I ride Phase 5s too, but I have not tried the Aku. I also have the too big of board problems...I think beginner riders (like me) tend to gravitate to a +1 size to keep up with the boat easier. Now that my technique is progressing, I need to get my foot back over the fin to make it more responsive.

At 200lbs, Im currently riding a 58" Pro carbon, but a demoing a 54" Diamond is on my to do list for this weekend. Ill give the Aku a go too since your raved about it!

I demo'd a couple hyperlite boards yesterday (with Shuan Murray) and REALLY NOT a fan of the VOLT. The traction pads are all wrong and I slipped off it twice. I also got to ride behind his G23 which was very impressive. The wave was no taller or longer than my AXIS, but definitely had more push to it. With the Nautique at 3X the sticker price and 2X the GPH of fuel, Im still very happy with the AXIS.

Well I pulled the trigger yesterday! Drove to Gaston and scooped the Aku, man I'm so stoked to own this board!

Just ordered my first P5 a few days ago and am excited to try it out. I looked at a lot of skim style boards and just decided this was the one for me.
