Nope. The box is sitting on the floor so the plastic kick panel isn't supporting any weight at all. As far as removal, it's basically just as easy as removing the factory plastic kick panel. I'm not sure how hard it makes winterizing the heater since I'm in socal and have a closed cooling LS3.

Thanks for posting about this, I have been real close to building one myself. I did not know how I was going to attach it to the boat. I also did not know that it would need to be removed for the heater core.

My boat is a 2012. Time wise for removal, I would say is about a minute or two longer than removing the factory plastic panel. I never have to winterize my boat so that whole aspect was the least of my worries, but the box is still small enough to NOT be a PIA to remove.

This thread inspired me to tackle this project over the weekend. It took me about 3 hours from start to finish. It help knowing the measurements on his box. I knew my cuts and everything before I started. There is really no way I can see what getting into that area behind the sub. I did not waterproof my box for now. I might hit it with some plasti-dip later on. The only real tricky part is getting everything lined up in that tight spot to put it together. I personally could not get the box, plastic cover and the sub to slide in as one unit, just not enough room.

I pre-assembled everything in the garage that way it would be easier to get the screws through the plastic and the new box. Once it is in there you dont have a way to have any force on the rear of the box to assist in getting the screws to take.

I will say it was well worth the time and $50 spent. I feel like I have twice the amount of bass as before!

So after reading all the responses and having my quetions answered by the original poster, I decided to give it a go and see what happens. I had most of the stuff laying around the house not being used, except for the vinyl fabric that I used to cover the panel that hides my sub enclosure and the spray rubber I coated my box with. I found this fabric at hobby lobby for $5. So this project basically cost me $10, a few afternoons after work, and a lot of sweat... its been really humid in Tennessee. I can def tell a difference in the sound with the sub being in an enclosure, a lot more "punchy" bass and surprisingly sounds good with the low end bass coming from a sealed enclosure. I went a different route that using the factory plastic panel. I like being the guy who has something different than everyone else on the lake. I am pretty pleased how it turned out, although I have some tweaking to do with the panel. That part was kind of thrown together last minute before the holiday weekend.

Seeing that you have the wet sounds sub, It would have been very difficult to get the box big enough to get the right air space while using that plastic panel.

I originally was going to make it out of fiberglass to maximize the airspace, but that would turn a few hour long project into a week long.

Last year i took the heater hose off of the top of the engine and hooked up my tube pump to one side... Easy winterization :D

Luckily, the temps never drop to anything under 60 degrees here in Orange County. It's an year round sport here.
