Anyone towing with a 2011 or newer ford with the 5.0 and 6spd trans?

Yup. Pulls our A22 well enough that even wifey will drive. We have some pretty steep grades heading out to our local lakes, lots of gear and 3 to 5 people in the cab. Fuel mileage is atrocious (4 kpl or 9.8 mpg) but I figure not as bad as the boat ballasted for surfing so who cares. Usually drive between 100 and 110 km/h. Truck wont keep those speeds up hills.

'12 GMC Sierra with 5.3 and the 6speed auto tranny. It pulls ok, rpms get pretty high going up steep grades, but I really don't like the 5.3 with the 6speed. It's not smooth and feels like the engine and tranny are constantly out of sync. I have previously owned an 01 and an 03 Sierra, never towed with them, but never had any complaints with the transmission.

Thanks for the feedback guys. My decision to buy a 06 5.4L was a bad one. Long story, but none the less I am once again in the hunt for a new tow vehicle. I drove 5.0 and Ecoboost. Both nice, but I have always liked the look of the GMC more. Not sure what to do. Looks like I will be okay with either.

I've pulled my boat with both a gmc and my current ford. I used to have a 2009 GMC crew cab with a 5.3L and it was a dog pulling the boat. It absolutely sucked. However my current 2012 Ford FX2 ecoboost isn't the absolutely best while pulling it, it does a lot better than my old truck.

Good luck in your decision.

A friend of mine has a new '14 Silverado High Country with the 6.2L. I'm sure it pulls amazing compared to the 5.3 but also assume the mpg is pretty bad. My next truck definitely won't be a 5.3 though.

We will be taking a family vacation at the end of July. Will be pulling the boat (A22) 7hours. A 2008-2010 5.3L Sierra is more in my price range, but looks like the 2011 F150 5.0 or Ecobeast would be better for what i need. I was trying to avoid a payment, but may need to reconsider.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Get an older duramax and give it a tug, see if they will let you test it out for a weekend, I get 11-13mpg going 75-80 every time I head to the lake

Just look for late 04 and up, the early models had injector problems, stay away from 8th vin 1 that's the problem engine
