Hi,

Planning to buy Axis A22. Would be great to get some input on the following:

1. Deck traction pads: What are they exactly? Where are they?
2. What is the dual battery with selector?
3. Is a second shark fin necessary?
4. What is the tower mirror bracket?
5. Is the flip up bolster seat worth the price?

Thanks so much in advance for your input. Cant wait to buy the boat... please help me out!!!!

Deck traction is a waste, dual battery is a must have. It adds a second battery plus a selector switch that allows you to isolate the batteries. Second tracking fun is not necessary. Tower mirror bracket is a rear view mirror arm that mounts on the tower. Flip up seat is a must have as well, use it all the time.

I have an 2012 A22 bought it used this year.

1.) My boat has it they are in patches on the top surfaces for grip when boarding. Its like skateboard grip tape but less harsh and made from thin rubber. I would not get it on a boat if i had a choice. I like the strip on the transom above the swim platform but the rest of it is pretty useless and some of my corners are turning up so i see it being a problem soon.

2.) Absolutly get dual batteries or plan on doing it yourself when you get the boat. Mine came with the dual battery switch and i am putting in the second battery myself. It allows you to switch from your starting battery to a deep cycle battery so you can park and listen to music and hang out. When you are ready to leave you can switch to your starting battery and start it up. It sucks worrying about draining your battery when you are relaxing. There is an automatic battery switch if you are handy and want to do it yourself. But for me manually switching is fine. Also others have recommended getting a on board charger because the alternator wont charge batteries fully.

3.) Don't have it not sure

4.) the mirror can mount to the windshield or to the tower. Mine is on the windshield and its fine but i have never used a tower mount one so i can't really compare the options.

5.) flipup bolster seat is a must have. It is a cushion that flips up and allows you to see over the windshield. I use it all the time when the windshield gets full of spray or it gets you a better view of low docks at the launch. I would never consider not having it on a boat.

1. Deck traction. We got it. I like it. I'm sure there are cheaper better alternatives but this is working for us.

2. Duel battery shouldn't even be an option. Two should be the minimum!

3. I wouldn't have believed that the second fin wasn't necessary but damn these boats turn sharp with just the one. Dealer said second was a waste of money and I agree.

4. Others have already said what it is. I will say I've only had the windshield mounted mirror until now. I ordered the tower arm and mirror (mostly because I am a sucker for bottle openers). I am very glad I did. I love this mirror. I am on the short side so it has taken some adjustment to be able to see without craning my neck. Now that it's set I love it.

5. Flip up bolster is a must for us. My wife loves it and I enjoy it when we are slammed for surfing. Makes it very easy to see over the bow.

Good luck on buying your boat

Hi Olivia
I have just ordered my new Axis A22 LF Edition
I went for all of the options you mentioned with the excpetion of the deck trac and the second fin
I have heard of a few long term maintenance problems with the deck trac, so avoided it
with regards to the second fin i was also advised that you dont need it
totally agree with the batteries issue as music is critical on the boat and you dont want to worry about running the batteries down
I'm really looking forward to my new boat, cant wait now as upgrading from a Moomba so soon to be a full member of the Axis family!
What colour choice or option are you going for and are you going for surfgate?
What sound pack - Ive ordered II but think I should have gone for III!!
All the best with the choices from here in Dubai!
Lyndon

1. I'd get it. If you drop/pick people up from the front of the bow you'll be thankful you have it. Instant slip prevention.
2. Install it yourself. Perko and about 30min.
3. On a 22, no.
4. I ride on the seat bolster and don't look through windshield. I like it. You don't have to keep center window down for viewing.
5. Never had a passenger there, but I'd guess it makes it easier to get in there for storage/ballast.
