I picked up an A20 last fall with PNP and wedge. I was trying to dial in the surf wave best I can until I get the stones to drill my platform to install a poor gate. So what is the best ballast combo to make this thing surf. I played around last weekend with it quite a bit, and couldn't get it dialed in. My old Malibu sportster had a better surf wave :o. The wave was huge, but was just very steep and seemed to have no push and just a tiny pocket.

What bags do you have in the rear? Does your boat have the new style swim platform?

Old platform and 750's in the back, with the arrow 750 bag upfront.

Your not gonna get it, trust me. I spent all last seaon listing the crap out my 12' A20 trying to get a good wave. I bult my gen 1 poor gate and it was insainly better! I just drileld my platform today and mounted joey1's kit! Can't wait to test it out!

Yeah, unfortunately the A20 and 1st generation platform can't make a wave worth taking a photo of. Get a 2012-2013 platform and it'll help.

I think I am going to get joey1's poor gate, but that wont be till after memorial day weekend. Its crazy that my sportster could make a surfable wave not even listed, where the A20 is jsut tough. I demoed a 2013 A20 last fall without PNP and was able to surf it no problem with just stock ballast, 2 people on the surf side and wedge deployed. Maybe ill try less ballast all around. No front bag, and about 400+400 in the port side. anyone try that combo? I am not looking for an awesome wave, just something that I can actually ride behind.

Just spend the money and get the 2012-2013 platform, it will help a lot. The 1st gen platform kills the wave.

Keep in mind, that generation of platform and mindset of Axis is of wakeboarding, not surfing. We the consumer surfed the boat, found out the platform sucked and Axis listened to us and redesigned the platform.

If it's any consolation, you're ballast setup WILL surf just fine. I surf my 2013 A20 with PnP ballast and I have less than you. I have Straightline 540s in my rear lockers

I fill Front, Center and Surf-Side rear, wedge down or up (works both ways) and run at 9.8 or 10.0 mph and get a nice shaped wave. I think some bow weight would help me out, but it's not necessary and we only surf recreationally so we don't worry much about getting a perfect setup.

So bite the bullet on the new platform or build one yourself and you'll be in good shape.

For the price I'd do the poorgate before the platform, mine surfs just fine with the old platform and joeys gate, they're right though, it would work better with the new platform but that's 1000$ versus 200$ your choice

It digs a little but the end result is still better than listing the boat
