Speaking from experience and someone that had to break down the tower, (with 2 REV 485's) each time.
Bottom to top is indeed 10'3" or very close to it. The boat storage where I keep my boat had opening only 10' high. I looked into having me a building built in side of yard but got sticker shock. Cement and bigger door were main expenses. After talking with my dealer they come up with a solution for me. They lowered my trailer a couple of notches and put a smaller rim/profile tire on there to keep it from rubbing fender. I took off the top light and equipped it with quick connect fittings and my trailer fits now by 1/2". Just an idea if you had the option of storing it somewhere. Seems 10' high doors are a standard. Good Luck.
Also keep in mind that if you do a roll up door then you will have to account for the roll up space for the door. Cant remember but 18" sounds about right. If installing a garage type door I think you only have to add around 6".

Go with a 12 x 12 and you will be glad you did, I just had one put in with remote opener and it was around 1500$ for everything

thanks dudes,
unfortunately, i dont think i have the room for a 12 ft door, and im not sure that i have the room for even a 10fter with the space needed to roll up... maybe one of those straight track jobbers, but im pretty sure i see boat storage in my future till i get my new shop built.
