I will say this, over the past couple of years I've been blown away by how much Malibu steps up to the plate when they have an issue... It's pretty commonplace for them to provide free parts and even ship them worldwide.

However, to then cover labour as well would be asking A LOT. if it was in warranty then sure (That's what the warranty is there for!) but out of warranty, then it in my mind is no longer their problem as they only warrantied it for a given time. to give parts is above and beyond of them, but to pay to install also I think would be above what is fair to expect.... Remember that this can apply to anything from a 2 cent washer to Dash based touch system... I've seen them provide both.

I'd suggest that if you have a quick look online then an upholsterer should be able to handle this for a veyr nominal amount of money.

I feel your pain that it potentially was an issue within warranty but unless you filed it within the period and Malibu holds firm, then it's hard for Malibu to decipher between who had an issue within and who had an without warranty.

Yeah.... I am definitely glad that they stepped up and replaced the skins. Especially since it is a design problem that they know of and are taking steps to correct. I was keeping my fingers crossed that they would also help out on labor since it was a design problem with the concave corner of their boats.
I will definitely have to look around cause the price from the dealer seemed really steep to me.
How hard can it be to replace them.....? Seems pretty straight forward. Take old one off and cover with new one and pull tight and staple back down..... Is it a special staple that they use or could I just use my electric staple gun...?
Just a note for everyone to keep an eye on the corner of the bow seats and definitely mention it before the year warranty runs out.

Think that's an easty enough one to do. But you will need stainless steel staples or they will rust and make a horrible mess in no time at all.

I'd be tempted to say that if you feel confident, pull the skin off (carefully, you need ot remove the staples one by one) and watch you don't damage the foam underneath. When putting the new skin on, use a little hot steam (a steam cleaner works great), this allows you to pull the skin nice and tight and work any wrinkles out.

If it screws up, pull the staples and take it to an upholsterer :-)

I did one seat on my old malibu - I just bought stainless staples and an electric staple gun form Lowes, have someone help you pull it tight and it was no problem.

UPDATE:

Skins are in. Just trying to find time to go get them.
They also sent a solution to the original problem. My understanding is that it is an Axis decal that fits in the corner. Does anyone have any pics of this yet?
Also wondering about the new boats coming out. Has this issue been addressed on the new ones? If anyone has a 2014 take a pic of the corner and post it.

Thanks

If you opt for Deck-Trac on your 2014 Axis they will slap a piece in each corner as a solution. Ugly as hell fix, glad I didn't get it

Do you know if it is only happening on black corners? My 2014 has light gray corners and I haven't noticed it yet.

My 2014 apparently has the "ugly as hell fix". Yes my vandal came with deck-trak and I know a lot of people don't like it for a variety of reasons like "its too expensive", "don't like black, its hot", "it peals up" I really don't understand that last one unless the surface wasn't prepped well. To be honest it was a little rough at first but we have had the boat out quite a bit the last couple weeks and its "smoothing out". I personally love it. Its high quality, thin but durable and in 90 degree temps I had no problem walking on it. Yeah I would prefer to have matching sea deck like what's on the swim platform but, its a least a 1/4" thick and may not work everywhere. The "fix" they put in the corners is REALLY not a big deal. It does the job and it doesn't stick out that much even with a vapor blue gel(honestly I forgot it was there until I read this), and I'm picky as hell about how stuff looks. just my opinion though.

UK Axis I disagree if its a factory defect it should cover labor as well. They should do like the other vehicle brands do and extend the warranty on that particular item until its been corrected. now i agree that it should not be covered forever but it should be covered until a permanent fix has been issued and out for a bit. it should be no different then an automotive recall or extended warranty. not mad or placing blame just my 2cents
