From what I read, with proper maintenance, engine and engine components should be able to run over 2000 hours without any engine overhauls. It looks like the boat got about 125 hour per year. It means the boat was used most weekends. Just do your typical inspection and you should be fine.
With that being said, I typically put 120hours+ on mine a year.

I had over 1200hrs on my malibu when I sold it in August. It ran perfect. If the maintenance was done, 500hrs is like a teenager in boat yrs.

Holy! I only have ~60 hrs on my 2012... too much beer drinking (or parrot bay if Aj is around) at the sand bar I guess...

I have 500 on my 2010 and would buy it again now. Check to see if the tach was replaced under warenty. There was a bug with turning the boat off when its displaying the depth. ..the cruise would not work the next time you turn it on. Axis fixed a bunch of boats for free under warranty, but it might be a costly fix or annoying to live with now.

Thanks for all the input on this I'm coming out of a Bryant to an axis so I don't know a lot about hours of use on them.

I don't think I/Os and Inboards age differently. Its more about quality and upkeep. I also find that boats in the south have way more hours!

The shape of the rest of the boat will tell you if the hours should be a concern or not. If the interior is beat up and the gelcoat looks like it's been abused then you know the motor wasn't cared for. Do they have the maintenance records? Were they the dealership that originally sold it and maintained it? When we bought our 2002 tige it had 600 hours but had been well cared for. If you do the conversion 500 hours is the equivalent of around 20000 to 30000 miles on a vehicle.
