Hi All, been lurking for about a year, sold the old boat and have decided on a 2014 A22 possibly Vandall. Here's my questions please give me you opinions.

Does the Vandall come with a darker carpet than the standard Axis? or is it just "textured"? small detail I know but most of our summer is triple digits and my last boat had medium grey carpet and it even got hot. Is there any Other options for flooring that you guys prefer?

We mainly wakeboard, but will probably take up surfing soon. Curious what your thoughts are on the monsoon 330 vs 350? Is it worth the upgrade? it looks like it has a long runner intake manifold which usually results in more low end torque. But i have no idea what real world experience is. I read a lot about the 335 but couldnt find info on the new engines.

Im not a big fan of the wake with the wedge down, but is it useful for surfing? Is it good for resale? or bad if you dont have it?

i cant get a definitive answer about the cost of gel. A dealer gave me a price sheet for another customers boat to give us an idea of the cost of options, but the gel pattern isnt the same. Is the tricked out gel part of the vandall package or extra? how much does it cost if its not? just looking for an average or MSRP. what is the cost of Adding flake to the accent of the tricked out gel? My wife absolutely loves the Vapor blue with metallic charcoal accents. She's just about willing to drive across county for it. haha. What are your thoughts? Never seen it in person but its definitly growing on me in pics.

Anybody know of dealers in central or southern California who are willing to deal. We are in the Bakersfield/ Taft area, but like i said before my wife would probably drive across country for a sweet deal and the right gel colors.

Thanks guys
Doug

oops one more. ive read that sound pack 2 is garbage. We have a friend with a malibu that has a pretty nice wetsounds setup so we were thinking of going with pack 3, but i read where most opt for no stereo and build there own. I added up the cost of adding wetsounds after and its appears to be more than the price for just getting sound pack 3 if thats what you want. Am i missing something?

The Vandall carpet is the same color as far as I know. I live in texas and have no problem with temp on carpet. I can tell you the metal flake upgrade is $2000 for the accents.

I have the 330 and haven't had any problems with it carrying over #4000 of ballast and I do not use the wedge either.

The wedge does help on the surf wave it makes it steeper.

Carpet is textured - I think the color is very close to being the same.
Ive heard the 335 is fine unless you are going over 4500-5000lbs of ballast and lots of people. I have heard the only engine upgrade worth the money is the LS3 if you can afford and extra $9k.
I liked the wedge for surfing and boarding on my old malibu and most people expect it - I think you need it for re-sale.
Vandall has tricked out Gel included - I think its 1,000 bucks if you are adding tricked out on a custom ordered boat and another 1,000 for flake. Not positive on that.

I went ahead with Soundpack 3 because I did not want to install the stereo myself and the cost savings would require me too do a bunch of work myself.

I know of a boat dealer in Ventura, CA. It's Tilly's Marine. They deal with Malibu, Axis and some fishing boats. That's where my axis came from and they were really helpful and worked good with our trade in. It's a drive from where you're at but not quite across the country.

In my humble opinion....

I have the 2012 A22 and I absolutely love it. To answer some of your questions.....

We have the light gray slick carpet (forgive me for not having the right term here) Anyway it dries very fast and is fine for us. I do however like the plush carpet that some come with. It just feels good beneath my feet.

We have the 335 and it seems to be fine. When we run full factory ballast along with additional bags. (600 each side in rear and 950 up front along with the wedge down we can still get on plane. However if we put a couple of people in the boat then we have a problem and it takes a lot longer to plane out. I am considering a prop upgrade this year. I have been in a boat with the same ballast set-up without the wedge and it planes off like a champ. The wedge really drags it down..... now for my wedge opinion....

Well I guess I should say the opinion of my son...... He hates riding without the wedge. The wedge really seems to help him and his riding and tricks. Of course it hurts me and my check book. I think you will actually grow to love the wedge depending on your level of riding.

I have the sound pack 3 and would not trade it for anything.

Good luck Doug..... and by the way I am a Doug also.
