I had this, you need to put one hand on back side and one on front and tighten the rings. Sorry, not explaining well.

No, the ignition switch is gone, the key turns freely, I had the switch off of the dash and a new switch in.

I had a similar issue this weekend but mine was a little dif. I was putting in backed off trailer hit the key and nothing. Switch wasn't loose just when turn to engage starter it did nothing. Tried jumping wires on the back nothing, so I went to the stater and jumped power and solenoid and starter spun over and boat started. Bad switch....... Turned off(switch) tried switch again just to confirm and the damn thing started and worked fine the rest of the day
