So The paddle needs to come down close to the bottom of the hull it looks like from that pic? Please advise?

The paddle height is good 2-3" below the tie down loop. Too high above and you'll get a bit of spray. Too low below the deck and too much water will run over top of the gate.

Right now the bottom of my paddle sits right at the bottom angle where the hull begins to straighten out. The top of my gate sits almost at the level of the tie down. That was my first go at it tho. Mine is 10" tall. I'm going to try out another one that sits a lil bit lower in the water and deeper along side the hull. I'll prolly just drop the paddle down a lil on the mount.

Those lines look great, but Im a little worried about the force on the lower part of the paddle. Seems like a lot of downward force on those screws. When the screws are across the middle of the paddle, the force of the water cancels out.
