Haha yeah I added two inches to the paddle and within the first few seconds of take off it ripped the paddle off and I lost the clamps so I'm going to redo the middle mount and go with the ratchet strap base I'll know this weekend weather permitting

Interesting shape and positional differences between the two HPDE gates. I tried to get the scale close based on the hull cutout, but they were slightly different camera angles. Joey's in the background (white) and SMG's superimposed in transparent green:

what do you think the key functionality element is? size? depth in the water? angle of deployment?

That overlay image is really cool. I think it'd be even better to compare the angle of the two when mounted (and deployed on SMGs). I noticed on the stock surfgate it angles downward away from the transom when deployed. So the rear bottom corner sits deeper in the water. I tried mimicking that angle. The bottom of my rectangular mount sits flush w the underside edge of the swim platform. So looking at that line u can see how the angle of the paddle points slightly downward.

Or maybe if u just tilt ur head to the right (or phone to the left) to make that bottom line of the rectangle horizontal, u actually get that mounted angle. Haha.

This is my first attepmt that I've been using for a few weeks. I had wanted to have the bottom follow the bottom of the boat, but my cutting wasn't that great. Hasn't seemed to be a huge issue though.

I had the old style platform and it doesn't seem to be digging into the wave (see about 0:40+ into the video). I also used vertical pieces of wood to hold the gate to the platform mount and that doesn't seem to have had a negative impact.

Theboat had no extra ballast beyond PNP (Fly-high arrow and 900 Sumos in the rear). My wife did mention that maneuvering was a pain. I probably try our 700 lb bag in the front to see what that does and also try the wedge.

Looks good Dave! I was surprised by how little it affected my goofy side drivability, but pulled hard on the otherside. Are you going to build another for the reg side? Are you going to progress to HPDE or a permanent system? I dont think there is enough room for a closed gate and our gen1 swimplatform, but I still have to test. Maybe to tomorrow Ill mock up a closed gate....
