Has anyone had any experience with the 2013 gps option on the a22/a20 and know how it works? I have heard it is not actual zero off. From what I understand and what I have heard it is just a similar system to what axis has always has just that the pickup is now a gps receiver rather than a paddle wheel and it will not actually offer any improved response or hold from the current system just a more accurate read without having to confirm and adjust with gps. The current system def is not bad and serviceable but zero off is amazing, sure is nice to slam the throttle down and have the boat lock in perfectly. Does anyone know or can confirm or debunk this? Just wondering if it is worth paying for the upgrade.

Some people like prefer GPS over paddle wheel systems. I have had both. I prefer the paddle wheel becuase everywhere I ride has some time of current. Speaking from experience wind, current, and dense clouding can manipulate a GPS receiver. If you will only be riding on a lake a GPS may fit you. One thing I hate about GPS is if you take a tight turn the throttle will began to feather up and down. If you order a boat with paddle wheel there is a after market source that provide a unit that attaches to the cable of the paddle wheel. It will make the pick up now rely on the after market GPS.

This is the site: http://www.nauticlaugic.com/nl4-xl%20packages.html

Its $257. I am sure that is a quarter of the price of what Malibu is wanting.

Take into account this in only my opinion. I guarentee others on this site will say opposite of what I have to say.

Not sure if you guys are really following what I am asking here... Not trying to be a smart ass I appreciate the input. Have any of you ever ridden behind a boat with zero off? Baisically it is so great because it stays so true to whatever the set speed is. You can load a boat up with 5k lbs slam the throttle all the way down and it will back off the throttle and ease into the set speed for you, maybe overshooting the set speed only.4 mph or so initially. Once it locks in it can usually stay within even .2 mph even in chop wind etc.
Perfect pass has a system called stargazer which is gps based but is nowhere near as accurate as zero off. You still have to help it lock the speed in by backing off the throttle and it will lose its lock sometimes when turning. This isn't a whole new system like zero off it is just old school perfect pass which reads speed with gps instead of a paddle wheel. My question is with the axis option is the gps just a receiver to measure speed on top of the old system instead of a paddle wheel or a whole new system?
Maybe ChattWake could chime in since he is in the know and has experience with zero off on his nautiques.
I am trying to decide when start looking for a 2013 if I need to find one with the gps or if the performance is similar to the old system, because it looks to be a pricey option.

sorry, I have no answer for you, but how much is the Zero Off upgrade?

Are you already an Axis owner with the paddle wheel cruise on your boat? IF not, you should def go out and drive one with 4-5K in it and check out the speed control. I cant speak for everyone, but on my boat I can drop the hammer and just leave it, as it gets closer to the set speed the cruise automatically slows down the acceleration and locks in the speed (sometimes it overshoots by .4 or .5 when I am fully weighted) and it holds speed really well. I had perfect pass on my old boat and it was nowhere near as accurate as this one. It would overshoot by 2 mph if I did not throttle back, and it would jump all around by .5 mph once it was set and riders would pull against the boat when cutting.

That said, I ride on a lake with clear skies and no current and would love Zero off (one less hole in the bottom of my boat)

Like Johnny said, the wheel system takes over when set speed is reached, give it time, I think there are only 3-4 members on here who have a '13 yet, someone will give us an opinion on the new system soon

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. Like I said the current system is pretty good and I don't mind purchasing another boat with the normal paddle wheel system but just wondering if the gps option would be worth it. I had heard from a friend who knows people down at the factory that te option would be north of 1k...

I drove the new Supra SA450 with ZeroOff. It was very impressive, intuitive, and looked great with the touchscreen. But I couldn't say that it was any more impressive with regards to performance over my paddlewheel Axis...
