How often should you change your transmission fluid? I asked my dealer and he basically said as long as it looks good it doesn't need to be changed. I have a 2010 axis a22 and haven't changed mine yet. I think I will when winterizing this soon. Is there a recommended brand of ATF Fluid to use?

I changed mind last year when i winterized it, you always want to winterize your boat with clean fluids in it. Today I just switched everything over to synthetic since i'm really close to the 100hr mark. I use AMSOIL in everything. Regardless of what the dealer says I would still recommend changing everything at least annually.

I think the indmar manual says to change after the first 10-20 hours (and motor oil), and then every 100hr after that. Pennzoil Dexron iii ATF is recommended per manual, but others can be used. I plan on the switch to synthetic after 100hrs like Walter.

I'm sure there are lots of opinions on it, but I plan on siphoning out the fluid and replenishing it with fresh in the winter vs. doing a full change with cleaning the filter.
Here's a post from another site on full and partial change for an MB v-drive:

Here you go:

The ZF manual doesn't recommend a specific brand, but rather lists the appropriate product from about 25 different oil companies. You'll just want to identify what model you have as that'll determine if your using ATF or something else.

You can find some more information in chapter 6 - ftp://ftp2.indmar.us/Manuals/Operator's ... Manual.pdf.

Ok thanks! I will have to identify which Vdrive I have. Would the manufacturer be stamped on the vdrive / transmission?

You have a ZF Ski-Vee. Use Dexron ATF in the front (SHIFTING) end of the transmission and also in the rear (V-DRIVE) end. We do not use the Indmar V on any AXIS models.

Not true. I have a 2010 A22 with the indmar V. It uses the Trans Fluid 50.
