Seems like that would save gas too. I have a hard time imagining the force from that little plate being equivalent to having an extra thousand pounds in weight on the surf side.

there is a prototype on this forum already... the guy used welding vice grips to attach it to his swim platform bracket and made it out of plywood. can't believe it holds.
