You have to pay for your own gas if you are donating your boat for towing?

Its for charity. The people who volunteer don't care about the gas.

Ed, yes, thank you. Please get him in touch with me, I would appreciate having him (no matter what boat he has)

AJWest. Short answer is yes.

Long answer is that WTW is a grassroots organization that relies 100% on volunteerism. Nobody makes a penny, there is no paid staff and every cent goes straight to the event or to the kids. We try to get everything donated, food, gear, DJ's, drinks, t shirts... etc and anything that is not donated gets payed for by either donations from fund raising or straight out of the directors/volunteer pockets. I wanted to be able to pay for gas, but that would be a lot of money. I will be able to pay the $25 lake permit fee for each boat. The left over money donated this year will go straight to the group homes college scholarship fund.

So as a boat owner if you volunteer you will be asked to do the following:
take a free online boaters safety course (takes an hour or so)
tow your boat to the lake by 7am and pay for your tow vehicle fuel
Sit in your boats driver seat for approx 6 hours (2 - 3 hour sessions)
pay for your own boat gas.
teach kids how to ride, about boat safety and etiquette.
wipe down your boat after its over (most likely all by yourself)

What you get:
fed breakfast and lunch
coffee, water, monster energy drinks
a crappy t-shirt you may never wear again
and a FANTASTIC experience of giving your time and money to kids that you may never see again, but will remember this experience for the rest of their lives.

John, still trying to work out all the logistics w Greg H from WTW to get an event out this way off the ground. Wish I could donate my boat and time to your event out west. Since its not really an option for me, how can I go about donating money to your event?

joey, thats great that you are working with Greg. It looks like its too late for this year, but if you start your own event next year, I would be glad to spend some time with you on the phone and help you out. I have learned a lot in the past few months that would hopefully help you and save you time.

As for donations, you can go to www.waketheworld.org and click on "donate" at the top. choose "san bernardino" in the "wake the world event" box and then next to it you can choose how much to donate. Unfortunately there are only a few predetermined options, but I appreciate any amount. Thanks Joey for your generosity and for those speakers you gave me :)
