As a new Axis owner I have a question about the tower. I have a 2012 A22 and when we pulled it into storage tonight we found that the tower was too high for the entrance to the storage unit. We were able to lower the tower but it was a lot of work with the Wet Sounds Speakers. (heavy).

two questions...

This tower can be taken down but looks like it is meant to stay up most of the time. Do any Axis owners have to lower and raise their tower on a regular basis and have you experienced any problems in doing so?

Second, Have you found an easy way to do it with just one person?

Thanks for any and all replies.

I have to lower mine to get it into storage too, first things first, I went from the 4 mtx speakers to rev10's with quick release clamps so it's easier now, with the mtx it was still a 1 man job easy. First thing I did was take all 8 quick release knobs loose, then I remove 1 upright all together and set it in the floor and put the 4 knobs in the glove box, use a few throw cushions and move the skybox seat forward about 1 foot, then with the other 4 knobs loose and 1 upright left I would remove the top 2 knobs 1 at a time and gently let the tower slide past the upright and set it on the cushions on the seat. I have done mine at least 50 times and have not scratched the powdercoat yet, just be sure to loosen the bottom knobs a few turns so when you lower the tower it can slide over, then I just remove the other upright and put the last 4 knobs in the glove box. depending on whether or not you're going to tow with the tower up or down you can choose to leave the uprights in place and just lower the tower, park it or whatever then raise it back up, just have the lower screws loose a little, I raise mine back up with 2 knobs per side in storage, (mainly because the cover fits better with it up), and tow with it down(I hate bug guts on such a pretty tower)

+1 to Walters post. I take my tower down to put it in the garage and thats exactly how I do it. Big thing is to go with an Exile or Wetsounds tower speakers with the quick clamps that removes a lot of weight and both with blow the stock MTX away.

I have two of the Wetsounds REV410 on the tower. Is there a quick release I could use on those?

BTW.... Thanks Walter for the great advice.

The only thing really giving me a problem is the light. We used a wrench to take off the tow bar.? (behind the tower light) not sure what it is called exactly. Then used a phillips head to remove two screws to take the light off. It still had a metal piece sticking up from the tower (where we took the tow bar off) that was hitting the top of entrance by about an inch. Thats when we decided to lower the tower.

My back is killing me and am in search of an easy way to do this.
Thanks to the Axis community for your help.

How about find some kind of stick and put in the cutouts of the uprights and set the tower on that while you back it in the garage, if you only need 1" or so that's what I'd do if I had those heavy 410's to deal with.....I think you can use a tc3 swivel clamp for the 410, or it's advertised on their website that you can. If you do, take the lock bolt out and taper the end of it a bit or you'll be hunting down a tap when the threads get boogered, found this out on my buddies tige, I did mine right out of the box and they work great!

If you only need and inch; let some air out of the trailer tires.

or a drop hitch. lowering the tongue may also get you enough clearance.

haha that would be too easy, I forgot about that, Id hate to have to air up the tires every time I wanted to go though, I don't know that the hitch would work though since the tower rests right above the tires, the hitch will likely only move the front of the boat a little.

I'm looking for a storage unit for my 2012 right now (it arrives in July). Can anybody tell me the height I need with the tower up? One unit has an "almost 10' high" door and I'm wondering if that's in the ballpark. I got the wetsounds pack so hoping I can keep the tower up.
