I have a 2011 A20. I just brought it home yesterday. I hooked up the hose and went to start the boat, but the alternator started smoking and was VERY hot from just turning the engine to the acc position. I started the engine and got the battery alarm. The battery has not been holding a charge so I took it in to have it tested and it failed the test.
I bought a new battery and now same issue when I turn the key to acc position. The boat has 8 hours on it so I figured anything that might have been on the alternator should have been burned off by now. The issue of it being so hot with the engine not running I think must be an issue.
Thoughts?

The one issue I have had with our boat was the alternator went out at 25 hours. I took it to our dealer and they replaced it and had us back on the water within the week. 250 hours later... no issues.

I found a not so local dealer that was open today and described the problem and he said most likely the alternator is shot and that may have lead to the battery issue. I am taking it in to the local dealer tomorrow.
