Just ran across some chatter about this new deal that went down. what are your thoughts? This does open up Malibu to a larger market. How do you think it will affect dealer territories? I know a number of Malibu dealers that do not sell Cobalt.

Can't imagine it will change anything.. cobalt is a totally different market imo. Retired guys with lake houses drive cobalt around here.

I am very surprised by this! It will be interesting to see what happens, if anything to the "Malibu" brand. I would think they are going to keep the brands separate, imo. But it would be interesting to see a cuddy V drive.

I see a number of Malibu dealers taking on the Cobalt line in certain markets.

I don't see them pulling Cobalt from a good dealer even if that dealer sells a competing wakeboat brand but for those dealers on the fringe they might lose the opportunity to sell Cobalt.

I think this does give Malibu Corp a new market that they cannot reach with the towboat line. The towboat market is SMALL compared to the rest of the market and Cobalt gives them access to that.

Do they buy a bass boat company like correct craft did next? Or maybe a Pontoon company? who knows?

Didn't Malibu buy right to build their own motors now? Maybe they want to be able to control where their motors go and make their own customers?

Surfgate was already getting put on cobalts in 17 with that new reverse drive under the boat, and yes for 2018 Malibu will be doing they're own motors. 16 was in house trailers and now in house motors for 18.

Just a correction here:

Cobalt does not have surfgate. Chaparral does however. They both use Volvo's forward drive.

Malibu/Axis will not be using their in house engines for MY2018. MY2019 is the introduction in production boats.

Thanks for the correction, I saw them on an I/O at the boat show and didn't pay attention to the brand, but I did hear from a reliable source about the motors. Did something change or was it always supposed to be in 2019?

I just hope Malibu does a better job assembling engines then they did on my boat.. loose nuts in a motors wont fly.
