I believe the title of this thread is accurate. I have an O2 sensor issue that keeps coming up after several replacements and resets. Details here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3705 So I emailed Axis/Malibu and their response was this:

"Hey chase hows it going?
Those questions you have will need to be answered by the motor manufacturer.
You can reach indmar at 901-353-9930"

I included that it was a 2015 A22 (has the PCM engine) which I responded asking if there was a mistake on the engine manufacturer. No response after 4 days.

Emailed PCM anyway with my experiences and issues. Their response:

"You need to stay diligent with your dealer by letting him know it reappeared
the code maybe telling him there is a lean or rich fuel condition which may
be the result of an injector not spraying properly, fuel delivery issue or
the 02 sensor may be getting wet if there is an internal water leak in which
the 02 sensor will fail if it gets wet enough.
So you can see the dealer really needs to be the one to evaluate this and
repair it as the issue may or may not be a warranty covered issue as
well...."

So I got all of that info from google before emailing anyone but alright... I bought the boat used so warranty is dead. I left the dealership after the last visit (of resetting the light and telling me it was all good) with the next step being replacing all of the O2 sensors. I've already done this so this is basically throwing money at the issue (my money) where I brought the boat in for actual troubleshooting. They also claimed to have inspected my stringers for any signs of issue after I discovered stress cracks in the gel coat under the fiberglass under the seats. To add to this, dealership is an hour plus away so it's no quick trip after work.

So where does this leave me...
I have a 2 year old boat that:
Constantly throws a service engine light
Boat company that tells me to call the engine manufacturer
Engine manufacturer that tells me to go back to the dealership
Dealership who wants to throw money at it instead of troubleshooting
Engine that consumes 3-4 quarts of oil per season
Hull that stress cracks in the gel coat and fiberglass (and possibly the stringers)
ZERO warranty

I'm all smiles on my end. Just waiting until I can afford to upgrade to another brand.
/rant

So if you bought a 2015 it should have included a warranty transfer, your dealership has to register it with Malibu/PCM. I know the 2016's were able to do that.

As to your other issues you need to have you dealer hookup it up to Diacomm when it throws a code, pull the code, and have them show you the code, like in person. It should tell you exactly what's wrong with it (in theory). You can look up PCM codes online but you could also contact PCM again and say, well it said this, what do I do?

If the dealership is so confident it's a specific part that needs replacing, demand they take the parts from another boat they have in stock (that match obviously) and swap the parts and if it fixes the problem then you'll buy the parts, but they need to prove it to you before you go throwing money at a problem outside of warranty. It costs them nothing to swap the parts besides labor which you'll agree to pay for either way.

Cracks in the gelcoat can happen and the stringers be fine but your hull should have a lifetime warranty from Malibu and you should be able to get them to show you the stringers are fine.

That is a good point about the sensors but I was able to get the code to stay off for a few weeks last year by replacing it. The problem is the code is returning so I believe there is a deeper issue that needs to be addressed. I expected this to happen last winter when I left the boat with them for a few months. I guess I just need to push on them harder to do what I assumed was pretty standard procedure.

As far as warranty, see the attached email. Does not transfer.

So the Axis warranty from Malibu may not transfer, but the one from PCM regarding the Engine should. Malibu doesn't honor that, PCM does.

It's kind of unfair to expect Malibu to help you with an engine issue when they did not build the engine, do not hold the warranty on it or are trained to troubleshoot engines. They build the boat and troubleshoot it alone.

Your dealer is supposed to be trained to do this and between them and the engine manufacturer they should be able to get it resolved. If all the dealer is doing is throwing parts at it they are not diagnosing the issue.

You do know that you can go to any dealership that is PCM certified to get the engine worked on also, correct?

Call them up and ask for a list of certified dealers in your area.

I was curious about this. There is a dealership near by that is PCM certified but I've had two bad experiences with them on both occasions I have tried to work with them. Might bite the bullet and take that route. Thanks for the info.

Just starts beeping. This all began the middle of last summer and has never caused it to go into limp mode. I ran another 20-30 hours with no loss of performance and gas mileage is on par too.

And the beep is now silent thanks to a pair of wire cutters. :D

I got screwed on this one too. The engine warranty states you must transfer within the first 30 days of ownership. The sales guy at the dealership that I purchased from (who sells Mastercraft) informed me that the warranty would transfer without any issue. He neglected to inform me that I had to send in a warranty transfer card that they needed to complete with inspection.

Long story short, I didn't realize the warranty wouldn't automatically transfer until after the 30 days was over.

A buddy of mine has a 2015 A23 that does the same thing. They haven't found a fix for his either. We just push the button on the left to stop the sound. It seemed to be an issue with the first year PCMs. I have a 2015 A22 it did it a couple of times but once the flashed the cpu it hasn't happened to me again.

Wish I had answers.
